Dyed Beans
Another one of our messy play favorites is dyed beans. They have a lovely cool feeling and the sound that is made when they hit together adds another element to a sensory play session.
The beans are also much easier to clean up than rice.
Materials:
1 cup of dried beans per colour (we used white beans but any light coloured bean will work)
1 tsp vinegar
A few drops of food colouring or liquid watercolours.
A zip lock bag or sealable container.
1 tsp vinegar
A few drops of food colouring or liquid watercolours.
A zip lock bag or sealable container.
Add 1 cup of dried beans to zip lock bag or sealable container.
Mix vinegar and colour then add to the beans.
Seal and shake until all the beans are evenly coated.
Spread the beans on a tray to dry overnight.
Once the beans are completely dry coat them with hair spray to ensure the colour is set.
The beans will store indefinitely if they are allowed to dry completely.
Use some of our scoops to add an extra fine motor skill building element.
